For A Girl Whose Three!

My good friends daughter is celebrating her thrid birthday tomorrow and my daughters and I have been invited to help her celebrate. The gifts are wrapped and today I made the card, I knew I wanted to put a ladybird on it as I knew that was going to be part of her cake but I really had no idea how the card would evolve. Over the course of the day I worked on pieces and added things and consulted my colour coach for the colour combination of Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight and Early Espresso, I also used Whisper White and Basic Black, ribbon, rhinestones, big shot number die, Chery Cobbler embossing poweder, pearls and the punch, i LOVE my punch and have used it a lot lately. Because the card evolved it is too big for any envelopes I have so I decided to make it into a postcard for the birthday girl. I also got a big carried away with the smooch spritz LOL Front of the postcard:

JAI Scrap #4- Third Times A Charm

The other day I got excited to do some scrapbooking and decided to use the JAI Scrap Challenge, unfortunately in my excitement I misread the guidelines and my two previous entries were incorrect. Thankfully the kind team at JAI Scrap let me know my mistake and I still had some time to enter again with a new page. At the start of the year my Nana gave me some photos of my Dad that she found amongst her 85 years worth of photos, they were taken when my Mum and Dad were dating, but thats about all I know. I took a photo of each of the photos using my digital camera and reprinted them as the originals were showing signs of aging, I then scrapbooked the copies so they aren't in the original size they were printed. My page:
These photos probably deserve a vintage layout however I seem to do only one type of scrapbooking which is mat the photo add some journalling and voila. One day I might get brave and try something new but today I stayed safe. Thanks for stopping by, Amanda

A Thank You Card

To fund my cardmaking/scrapbooking habit I worked at the local speedway this season which finished last night and the last half of the season prior. Hubby got a new job at Christmas which sees him working days and nights. We were really lucky that I was able to finish this season because most of the Friday/Saturday nights I had to work he was rostered off or on day shift and my good friend was able to watch the girls for us for an hour and a half where mine and hubbys start/finish times overlapped. When he had to work a night shift he was able to get annual leave except last night. We were very thankful and grateful that my good friend said she could watch the girls and put them to bed for us. We have not had anyone else look after our children at night since the youngest was born, shes 3 and a half. We had our eldest looked after a couple of times when she was around 2 but she was always tucked up in bed before we went. I was extremely nervous about how last night would go as the youngest HAS to have me lie in bed with her till she falls asleep, if I don't she screams until I give in. Thankfully there were no tears or tantrums and everyone had a happy experience. To thank my friend I made her this card:
I introduced her to cardmaking and SU and I personally think she is a far superior card maker to me, I try to replicate her work and it always looks a mess, LOL This is what the card looked like before I decided it needed something else:

Scrapbooking Time

At the start of this week I finally got around to sorting through three months of photos on my computer and deciding which ones I wanted to print. I then went and got the 350 odd photos printed. I made a double page spread using crumb cake, baja breeze, basic black, baja breeze 12x12 paper stack, Big Shot and TImeless Type Junior Alphabet for the title.

Fussy cutting

My nephew is turning 2 on the 2nd of May but we are having his birthday celebration next weekend due to various family members being out of the country next month. The other morning when I couldn't sleep again due to children who like to wake at all hours of the night, I was thinking what kind of card to make for him. My sister said he likes fish so decided to give Fishy Friends a whirl. I cracked open the blue and green inks and sponges and got busy making an ocean background, i then silver embossed each stamp from the set on various coloured cardstock and then fussy cut them before adhering with dimensionals. The card is A5 size so doesn't fit a standard envelope, I will just wrap it into his parcel.
For the inside I used a sizzix alphabet through my big shot and used my xyron sticker maker to adhere them to the inside

Lost In Translation

My DD is going to a 6th birthday party tomorrow so I needed to make a card. I decided to use the colours from the invitation which were pink and purple with a butterfly on it. My good friend made me this awesome card for my birthday:
I loved the design and thought it would look good with the pink, purple and butterflies i had in mind for the 6 year olds card. This is what I created:
Im not happy with the outcome and it looks like the poor cousin of the classy card my friend made but im sure the 6 year old recipient won't notice! Thanks for stopping by, Amanda

Happy Anniversary

On Monday my friends celebrate their first anniversary, I took their wedding photos for them and wanted to make them a card to celebrate their first year of marriage. Orange was one of the colours the wedding party wore so I made my card using Only Orange, Very Vanilla and Grey. I used the new framelits die and created an easel card.

Happy Birthday to me!

Yesterday was my birthday I received phone calls, texts and facebook messages from my family and friends I got a necklace from my husband, a bracelet and merino fingerless gloves from my girls
In the afternoon I attended the unveiling of a young man who was a younger brother to me, he and his brother affectionately called me "mavis", i am 'mavis' to them only. When I got home my husband had cooked me a beautiful dinner of salmon, tomato salad and roasted vegies.
I attempted to make hot cross buns to celebrate Good Friday here they are rising nicely:
After the came out of the oven:
I didn't make the crosses for them, they smelt like hot cross buns but they failed, they were edible as long as you could get past the fact they were more sultana spiced scones than hot cross buns. We had unseasonably warm weather, more summer than autumn which was nice to get out in it and to be able to dry washing in it. Thanks for stopping by Amanda

I Want Candy!

I love Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, they are amazing USA candy and very hard to come by here in NZ. However I heard that the town near us had a shelf of 'candy' in their video store. So today I took a drive and loaded up with some tasty treats to try.
I have tried the twizzlers and I won't be purchasing them again. The Jolly Rancher are delicious, the cinnamon gum kept it flavour well. THe bites are quirky and yummy. The Mike n Ike are like soft jellybeans. I am enjoying my 'candy', its my birthday treat to myself. THanks for stopping by Amanda

Its A Boy!

2 baby boy cards made, 10 more baby cards to go! I was woken at 3am the other morning and was unable to get back to sleep because the planning and formulating of how I was going to execute this card were running around in my head. I finally dozed off till 7am when the kids woke me and I promptly got up and drew a sketch of what had been running around in my head hours earlier. I then spent 2 days punching, brayering, colouring, stamping, cutting and sticking to come up with this card.
I also spent an hour decorating the inside of the card:
The inside and outside before I assembled them:
